My First 4 Days Trying to Make Money on WebAnswers

On WebAnswers you can make money from asking questions and you can make money from answering questions. I'm already beginning to forget the details of exactly what I did during my first 4 days on WebAnswers, so I wanted to document it now already, for myself to refer back to, and for readers who may want to join WebAnswers too. What I did and what happened in my first 4 days on WebAnswers may help others too.

I'd read an article or four on HubPages about WebAnswers, and because it sounded interesting, I went to check it out.

I think it was before lunch 4 days ago that I joined WebAnswers, and I proceeded to spend about 7 hours on the site. If I make up my mind to attempt something, I want to do a good job of it.

During those 7 or so hours I answered a little over 30 questions, and was pleased to see my profile picture appear at the top right of the homepage amongst the most active users of the day. Before it appeared there, I was getting close enough to bother to try just that harder to get my profile picture up there too. Upon hovering your mouse cursor over any of the 16 small profile pictures at the top right of the homepage, one can see how many posts those WebAnswers members have made, so I decided to try post more answers than the member that had the least amount of posts, to make it into that display of most active users of the day.

Of course I browsed around the site too, getting a feel for how everything worked.

One has to have an Adsense account to make money on WebAnswers. You can make money from asking questions, but it would seem that it is best to try make money from answering as many questions as you can. You can earn a bit of money just for answering questions, but more if a person who asked the question awards your answer as the best answer from all.

It would seem that those who try spend a bit of time on the site every day answering questions are making about $15 to $40 per month, and then there are also a few who spend a considerable amount of time each day on the site sometimes making as much as $400 per month.

Now there's a "quality score" that comes into it too. You don't know what your quality score is, but it would seem that the better your quality score is, the more you are likely to earn. Being awarded for the best answer to a question is good, but having a good quality score is good too.

You have to answer 50 questions before you receive an email invite from WebAnswers to get an Adsense account or to link up your exisiting Adsense account, so that you can begin earning from your efforts on WebAnswers. If you get to having answered 50 questions and you don't immediately get an invite from WebAnswers, the most likely reason is because you've been making too many typos or spelling mistakes in your answers, or that your grammar is really bad, or because you've been giving really short answers. Answers do not have to be as long as writing a 400 word article, although I suspect that would only help you, but at least 6 to 10 lines of content for each of your answers seems like a good idea.

Besides asking just over 30 questions on my first day on WebAnswers, I did also ask two or three questions - mostly related to me trying to get used to the site.

I was concerned that when I asked a question, and chose a category for my question, there was no "WebAnswers Support" category or "WebAnswers General Questions" category appearing in the drop down of category selections. I was concerned because, upon asking questions about it (choosing the miscellaneous category for my question) other users were reporting that those categories were visible to them. Even trying a different browser didn't make those two categories appear for me.

On day 1 I also added content and a photo to my profile. I wasn't yet sure if I could link to any of my own sites or to my HubPages profile so I left links out of my profile.

On day 1 I also awarded one or two WebAnswers members if I thought their answer to my two or three questions was the best answer of all that I had received.

Of my just over 30 answers I'd given on day one, not one was awarded as the best answer. This prompted me to explore the site further in search of clarity on the earnings to be made on WebAnswers, and I discovered that one can also earn even if your answers are not awarded, but that your aim was to be awarded the best answer to any question, so that you could earn a little more.

On day two I became confused about the time zone of the site, because my profile image was still appearing in the top right of the homepage amongst the 16 most active members of the day, when I had not even started adding any more answers that day, but I didn't think too much of it, as thought I'd vanish from that display area sometime on my day two, as soon as the day changed over to a new day, for the site. I'm in South Africa.

I didn't have too much time to spare on day two and didn't answer enough questions to make 50 that day, but I came fairly close. I had seen some new members complaining that they hadn't received their invite to add Adsense to their WebAnswers account after they had answered 50 questions. The answers they had received from older more experienced WebAnswers members were mostly that if they didn't receive their invite immediately, they had probably not posted long enough answers or had made too many typing errors, or spelling errors, or grammar mistakes, and that they'd have to answer some more questions to try and get their quality score up a bit - and not only answer more questions but to be careful of not making their answers too short or too full of errors.

I was upset I didn't have enough time on day two to get to a total of 50 questions answered, as I was keen to see what WebAnswers thought of my answers. Even if I had not yet had any of my answers awarded as the best answer, I'd at least know that WebAnswers was happy enough with me, if upon asking my 50th question, I immediately received my email from them to link up Adsense, so that I could start earning from my efforts.

It was either on day one or day two that I went to learn more about my referral code in my WebAnswers account. It's like HubPages where you can make a unique referral tracker instead of just using the ugly default one. I was upset and asked a question about it too, when I discovered that after typing in a unique referral tracker name for myself, there was no "save" or "submit" button for me to do anything with it. All i could do was type it in the field for it, but I couldn't save it. I tried refreshing the page too, but nothing.

Would I make my total of 50 questions anwered today? Yes!

Was I still getting my WebAnswers profile picture displayed top right of the homepage amongst the top 16 most active members of the day? Yes! (Which didn't make sense - still being there on the second day wasn't too bad as I'm sure time differences play a part, but it didn't make sense that I was still there on a third day.)

Within just one minute of posting my 50th answer I received my email invite from WebAnswers to link up my Adsense account. Good - my quality score couldn't be too bad. WebAnswers were happy with me, my answers, my content, and my grammar. They also didn't think I was a spammer.

It may seem tedious that one has to answer 50 questions (and answer them well) before being allowed to link up one's Adsense account (or get an Adsense account through WebAnswers and then link it up) but it makes sense to me. The owners want good quality content on their site, as better quality would give their site more authority, and they could ultimately earn more from it - and this is exactly what WebAnswers members should want too. If WebAnswers members want to earn more, they should make the effort to provide and deliver good quality content.

It was also on day three that I discovered that the drop down categories of "WebAnswers Support" and "WebAnswers General Questions" were now available to me. I must have had to answer those 50 questions before those two categories became available to me.

Day 4 on WebAnswers was today. Today I discovered that I could now save a unique referral tracker. Had I checked yesterday I believe it would have been available to me then too, already. I suspect it was just like the two categories that didn't appear for me until I had answered 50 questions.

Today I changed my WebAnswers avatar, or profile picture. When I uploaded it, refreshed my profile page, and couldn't see it, I was concerned. Where was it? Was there a caching problem? When would the caching problem go away? Was the image too big, or too small? Had it really uploaded? No problem; I was just impatient, and it appeared on the site a few minutes later.

I answered a few more questions today, but still have not had any awarded to me as the best answer submitted. This is a little depressing, as I feel many of my answers were quite good, and without them being awarded as the best answer on WebAnswers, I was worried about all the time I had already spent on the site, and having "given" that content away, when I could have perhaps used it here on HubPages or on one of my own sites instead. But because I'd like to give WebAnswers a chance, 4 days is way too early to worry about earnings from the site, so I pushed those thoughts out of my head.

I linked up my Adsense account yesterday evening. About 26 hours ago. Since then I have earned about $0.07 on WebAnswers. I don't feel it's such a bad start, and there must be some reason some members are still using the site a few years later.

I look forward to answering many questions on WebAnswers, and earning more on WebAnswers, and more so when I get a few of my answers awarded as the best answer to a question.

Seeing what some WebAnswers members say they earn each month ( a few earning as much as $400 ) is encouraging, and I hope to earn as much as they do too. I understand that the members who do better first answered many questions every day, spending as much time as possble on the site, until they had answered 1 000 to 2 000 questions, and then beyond that, they just try and answer about 10 questions a day.

Imagine that (after the initial burst of trying to reach 1 000 to 2 000 questions answered) that you could earn about $300 a month for spending just one to two hours on the site each day. That leaves a lot of time over to spend on HubPages, on your own sites, or elsewhere online where you make money online. I for one am determined to find out if it is really possible to make a nice little extra income on WebAnswers, and will keep you all updated.

If you join WebAnswers and get confused about any of the things just like I did, then visit and read this hub again, to see that many of my concerns were unfounded. Concentrate on getting your first 50 answers done, and then things automatically become easier to understand.
