A Single HubPages Adsense Click of $9

Amazing Single $9 Adsense Click!

My best Adsense earnings month was just last month, March 2011, of about $185 (a currency converter gave me that amount - I'm in South Africa and get paid by Google Adsense in ZAR, South African Rands - R1238.)

My Adsense earnings have grown beautifully, each month, since I started using Adsense on my sites, then later also joined a few online writing sites, HubPages being one of them.

Then, just 4 days ago, I had a single Adsense click of R63 ($9.43!) It was (and is) amazing!

I track HubPages Adsense clicks within my Adsense account, and it was within my Adsense account that I saw that just one click on one of my HubPages articles had earned me over $9. This amount is way above any previous amount that I have earned for just one Adsense click.

I got all excited, thinking I should start spending more time on HubPages, and of course submit many more articles to HubPages (this is one.) I was curious too, though, and went looking on Google to see if other people had also had the odd high earning single Adsense click.

They had, and it mostly seemed to be that it was simply a rare occurrence, and these other high single Adsense click earners seemed to think it happened from time to time when somebody was new to using Adwords, and made an error setting their cost per click budget. If so, I feel sorry for the person who placed that Adwords ad, but I'm still glad I received the click! Hopefully whoever clicked the ad at least got to the advertiser's site and bought a product or made use of a service offered.

What was the Ad about, that was Clicked?

I don't know! This frustrates me, because, what if? What if it wasn't an Adwords advertiser making an error that earned me this single Adsense click earnings of $9, and that ad really did have a legitimate cost per click budget of that amount?

Then, I would want to know what the ad was about, which site it linked to, and anything else I could find out about it - so that I could write and publish more articles that contained words that trigger that ad.

I don't even know what page it appeared on, as I only track my articles on HubPages as a whole, and have not yet added individual pages to my URL channels within my Adsense account. (I have only added hubpages.com to my URL channels, and not any individual page URLs for any of my articles/hubs on HubPages.)

Will I be making a greater effort to write more frequently for HubPages?

I'm not sure yet.  If I had more single Adsense clicks on HubPages like this $9, then I guess I would find the time somewhere to write more articles for HubPages.  Currently, and recently, though, I've been earning more from Adsense on my own sites.

I don't earn a lot from Adsense, but since these Adsense earnings have been considerably more on my own sites, I prefer to add new articles to my own sites.

HubPages is not forgotten, though, as I do also earn from Adsense here, and I enjoy the community.

And here I am, proving that I could not forget about HubPages, by adding this new hub.

Thanks, kimbrewaa, yes the $9 single Adsense click is great, but I think just random. I find continuous hard work at increasing a monthly passive income from Adsense works best at getting my earnings from it higher each month.

Don't beat about the bush, girl! How much did you generate on Adsense just from your Hubpages articles from the amount you describe? Bob

That is great but you know I think I got here a few weeks before you and did the 30 hubs in 30 days I don't know how many times and after awhile I went to check and I had made a dime! I couldn't make $9 in nine months!I just can't trust people like that and although for awhile when Micky went haywire my score dropped and nothing I could do brought it back up just until the last few days. I do have my children's book out now and a condensed version but still pretty long for a kids I think, E-Book with Barnes and Noble, Amazon, couple more big names. It may be Lulu I am not sure Kristeen here was telling me about they make your book as it is ordered and you choose all of how it is made. I am going to try to look at all your stuff there but what I wonder is, isn't it really getting the word out that makes you or breaks you and people at hubs don't want a childrens book. I wanted to put a poem at lulu and had to join and then there was no way I could find poems again to put one of my poems there for contest, these places drive me nuts, I don't think I have had a day away from this place since I got here! lol Now I hear there is no future in poems, well I did have dozens of stories...anyway guess you can see I am getting kind of fed up and any assurance there really is hope. How important is Facebook or Twitter?

Hi diogenese

Of my R1238 March 2011 Adsense earnings, R25 was from online writing sites - of that R25, R15 was from HubPages. In the past 9 months, before this single R63 click my HubPages Adsense earnings have totalled R232. Sorry you thought I beat about the bush, but the hub was mostly just about the amazing single R63 click - had I not beaten about the bush, I could have written just a few lines like in this comment, but then I wouldn't have had a hub to publish. The hub was not about how much I regularly earn on HubPages, but thanks for the idea, I may do a separate hub about that.

Hi Polly

Good to hear your book is out, congrats! Yes, getting the word out, or marketing, is very important. - it's the same for articles/hubs on HubPages or on other sites - marketing articles brings more traffic to the articles. It's a big and time-consuming job, marketing, but without it, less eyes see a product, service one offers, or ads within or next to articles. Regards Twitter and Facebook, I do sometimes leave a link there to a new article on one of my sites, but it does next to nothing for me. A bit of keyword research using the Google Adwords Keyword Tool, as well as linking between my sites, seems to help me the most.

ps, when you say you are going to try look at my stuff "there" - where is that? I don't have anything on Lulu.

Good luck with the marketing of your book - I'm going to send you an email with a link to a page that has ideas on how to market a site or article, because many of the ideas can apply to marketing a book too, I think.

Good info. I'm new and still learning all this. Some of it seems so complicated, so I've decided to just write and hope everything else will take care of itself. Other than, trying to put myself out there. Thank you!

@evolveasite - thanks for the comment - regards asking people to click your Adsense ads, it's strictly against Adsense terms and conditions and program policies - Adsense may close people's Adsense accounts if they discover that Adsense publishers ask other people to click their ads.

Teresa Schultz profile image

Teresa Schultz Hub Author 13 months ago

Thanks, hatimyal - wow, yes, please come back and tell us if you remember what the keyword for that highest paying keyword of $54 is!

Teresa Schultz profile image

Teresa Schultz Hub Author 13 months ago

@gitrdun4444 - thanks - and regards just writing, that's fine for newbies, and as you spend more time writing, reading other people's articles, and just learning as you go along, you may discover you are eager to learn more, and then can spend more time on trying to increase traffic to a site or article. A natural progression towards getting more traffic, and learning more about how to get that more traffic, is often best, because if concentrating on it too much, you risk losing the natural style in which you write. Keep writing, and good luck.

A $9 click is far above anything I've ever seen - it would be quite a shock.

I didn't see anyone in the comments make the suggestion, but you can set up google analytics in conjunction with adsense to better track just what is going on. It won't tell you the particular ad, but will tell you what hub got clicks and how many and how much they made. You might check it out.

Thanks for the comment and tip, wilderness - I've never yet used Google Analytics - perhaps it's time I checked it out - previously when reading about it in articles by other writers, it didn't really sound like it would be able to tell me much more info than I can already get from just inserting URL channels in my Adsense account for monitoring purposes, but the more I see Google Analytics mentioned, the more I keep meaning to check it out for myself.

This single $9 click was definitely a once-off for me, nothing like that has happened before, or since - yet!

Well, if nothing else, analytics will track an unlimited number of hubs where you are limited to 200 in adsense. It also gives such things as time on site, worldwide location of visitors (a map that gets colored in showing visitor locations - neat to watch) and bounce rate. Well worth the little effort needed to set it up.

Hi there! Wow $9 for a single click is good indeed. Highest I have had is also near $2! I sort of remember what the highest paying keyword was, it was something to do with car insurance if i'm correct. :)

Teresa Schultz profile image

Teresa Schultz Hub Author 11 months ago

@shafmasta Yes, I think car insurance is one of the better paying keywords, but I do suspect that my single $9 click possibly came from somebody placing a ppc ad with Adwords who was new to using Adwords, and who bid much higher than was needed for a good ad position.

malgredy 8 months ago

i think you can track this ad if you use the report system in your account by choosing the day and the ad unit but i think this is only in the old interface.
