Adsense Earnings Report 2010

By

My 2010 Google Adsense Earnings

I'm pleased to say that my Google Adsense earnings (passive income) have gradually been increasing, more so recently.  My total online earnings for November 2010 were the best month's online earnings yet, for 2010.  Hopefully my online earnings will continue to increase in December 2010.

My November 2010 online earnings are about $120, and is mostly from Google Adsense.

Many may think that the amount is not a lot, but I'm pleased, as I cannot yet devote all my time to making money from Google Adsense or to making money writing online.  I would certainly like to spend more time on it, though, and maybe one day I'll get to.

Where are most of my Google Adsense earnings coming from?

Most of my Google Adsense Earnings are coming from my own sites and blogs. I have two Blogger blogs (blogs that have a URL that ends in blogspot.com) but these blogs are so far earning me next to nothing from Adsense.

My sites and blogs that are making me the most money in Adsense earnings are my self hosted websites, and self-hosted WordPress blogs (a self hosted WordPress blog is not the kind that has a URL ends in wordpress.com, obtainable for free from wordpress.com, but is the kind of WordPress blog you get at wordpress.org - there are many free themes to choose from, then you get and pay for a unique domain name (registere a domain name) and get and pay for hosting, and upload your free theme WordPress site.

Not all my sites and blogs are making me decent amounts in Google Adsense earnings, and even those that are, there are some pages on them that make quite a bit more than others. Most of my pages that do well with Adsense are work from home related, where I try help others with articles about working from home, related to both offline and online methods, that generally cost nothing or next to nothing to get started with.

So, how much have my Google Adsense earnings been increasing then?

My first month of Google Adsense earnings was in August 2008 (just $0.25)

More 2008 Adsense Earnings:

September: $1.50

October: $2.80

Let's jump to a year later:

2009 Adsense Earnings:

October $21

November $46

December $35

And now this year's Adsense Earnings:

January $72

February $54

March $54

April $37

May $58

June $51

July $59

August $51

September $60

October $77

November $111

As you can see, a bit of up and down on Adsense earnings happening there, but from August 2010, only up.  I hope it keeps going up each month, but looking back at April I hope the same does not happen in April 2011.

South African making money from Google Adsense

It was only early this year (2010) that South Africans could start receiving money from PayPal, so, when looking for ways to make money on the Internet, before that, I liked the fact that Google Adsense could pay me by posting me a cheque.

I've received 4 Google Adsense cheques to date, and am due for the 5th cheque.

I've used a currency converter for the amounts in the Adsense earnings lists above, as South Africans receive Adsense cheques in South Africa in South African rands and not in American Dollars. We have to reach an amount of R1 000 before an Adsense cheque gets posted.

While working with the currency converter, I was obviously converting according to what the exhange rate is right now, so I cannot guarantee the accuracy of the conversions, especially when relating to earnings quite a few months ago, but the lists should give you a good idea of my Adsense earnings.

I'm sure the procedure for Adsense cheques is the same for everyone, though:

During a particular month, whenever that month is, an amount of R1 000 is earned or reached. At the end of that month, one waits one month before Google Adsense posts a cheque. Here in South Africa, we wait about 1 week to 3 weeks before the cheque arrives in the post.

For example, I just-just missed reaching R1 000 in October, so only reached it in November, (the first or second day of November, I think) but only now (end of November) will the amount count. A cheque will be posted by Google Adsense at the end of December and I will receive it 7 to 21 days into January 2011. Then deposit it in my bank account, and wait a further plus minus ten days for the cheque to clear. But while all this is going on, I continue to earn towards the next Adsense cheque.

Many people in South Africa (and all over the world) are struggling to earn extra income, or even an income at all, yet they have computers and Internet, and don't always fully realise that they can make money writing online. I do hope that more and more people realise they can make money online, and that they make use of the opportunity to better their lives.

Am I not also making money from Adsense on writing sites?

Yes, I am also making money from Google Adsense revenue sharing writing sites like HubPages, but these earnings are so far not as much as I make from using Adsense on my own sites.  In fact, so far, these earnings are a lot less than I make on my own sites.

However, this does not indicate that using Adsense on my own sites is generally better than using Adsense on online writing sites. I have many more articles on my own sites than I do on online writing sites. I started some of my sites as much as a year before I started joining more article writing sites.

I believe I could only make a more direct comparison between earnings if I had equal amounts of similar topic articles on both my own sites and on Adsense revenue sharing online writing sites, and was marketing them both fairly equally.

I try to write for both my own sites and online writing sites as often as I can.

I am really going to have to study this out one day, since I have never made a dime, lol, but getting the ball rolling getting writings together. You seem to be the only one going in so much detail so hope to learn much from you!

millie52 18 months ago

I would like to know more about your blogging sites are you planning to give more information on them and how you set them up, i need this information for myself, as i intend to set up my own bog sites-thanks

Teresa Schultz 18 months ago

@ Polly - thanks for popping in :)I'm glad you mention the detail I go into - yeah that's me a detail freak - I just wish I had more time for all the things I want to do (my detail freakishness probably slows me up!) I do hope others can learn from me, even though I still have miles to go myself...

@ millie52

The blogsites I do best with are the type you get at WordPress.org - you get domain registration for a site, hosting for a site, first, elsewhere, then choose a free WordPress theme and upload it to the host server. WordPress can sometimes be a little tricky to get the hang of (uploading content yourself, adding widgets etc) but one does get used to it after a while. There are also free WordPress lessons with step by step instructions on the Internet - just Google it. The websites I have my boyfriend and I handcode html, and design them ourselves (also need domain registration and hosting.)

There are totally free websites and blogsites to use, eg Blogger as one of the totally free blogging platforms, but I prefer the paid hosting ones, where my domain name is all mine (and doesn't end in blogspot.com like so many others do.) I do have and use two Blogger blogs just for fun, though, but they really, so far, earn me next to nothing compared to my other sites. It also takes a lot of writing too, and Adsense earnings may not increase much, for quite a while (took me a year to get to my first Adsense cheque, but thereafter it's been three months between the cheques - hopefully soon down to two months between Adsense cheques.) Millie, follow some links on my profile to some of my sites which have more info on the type of things you want to know - good luck!

Hi Teresa,

Very nice post, congrats!

I have the same kind of performance and also november was my best mounth since april 2004! Take carefull when you post values of earnings, as far as I know it's not allowed to do that!

What your fellings reggarding december earnings? I feeling the flux of clicks, their value and the behavior of earnings pretty different from november, did you feeling the same!

Reggards from Rio!

Hi Marcelo

Thanks for the comment and good luck with your future earnings. December is only two days old so far, so it's difficult to tell how my earnings for this month will be, just yet. Regards telling people how much one earns through Adsense, I see in the Adsense help sections that it's okay - one is just not supposed to tell click through rate.

thanks for the information Teresa.

Great job! Self hosted or custom domain names usually do better in search engines and have better earnings. Thanks for sharing your earnings.

Thanks for the info Teresa, I think it is useful when people post earnings as it tends to inspire people to do more. I'm not earning that much (it took me 5 years to get my first cheque but that was just from a passive website that I was not aiming to earn money on!) but now I am hoping to get the next cheque in a couple of months now that I am actually aiming to make money from adsense.

Thanks for this.

Teresa Schultz 14 months ago

Hi Azure - well done on earning some income from Google Adsense when you were not even trying to - even if it did take 5 years to reach your first payout cheque. Now that you are more interested in it and are actually aiming at making a bit from it, it will certainly be quicker until you receive your next cheque, as long as you keep working at it!

hi there, i was wondering what the "currency" is when viewing "earnings" for aouth africans? is it still in dollars? because there are no units given...

eg i currently have 16.91... but it doesnt say what though?

thank you

Teresa Schultz 12 months ago

Hi Nix, and welcome to HubPages!

I presume you mean your Adsense earnings in your Adsense account? Had a look at my own Adsense account and the page I land on after logging in is my reports overview page and near the top it says "Todays estimated earnings R40.12" So the R symbol is right there, not sure why it doesn't appear on yours. Also clicked on "my account" navigation tab and if I scroll down a bit on that page there's a section that says 'Payment Details" with two sub headings in that section that say "payment type" and "currency" - next to the currency part it says "South African Rand"

Use the edit link next to the "Payment Details" to change it if the currency within your own Adsense account is not yet showing South African Rand."

Hope that helps!

Nix Comninellis 12 months ago

ooooh okay :) thank you, that's so much clearer- I was just looking at my monetize in my blogger account (http://nixcomninellis.blogspot.com)... but I went to where you said and I saw now... Thank you!

You're welcome - glad to have helped :)

Thank you for this honest post. Very rare I get to read what people ACTUALLY really earn from adsense. I've yet to be approved for my own adsense account. Got any tips for me? Thank you if you do. (If it helps, I'm from south east asia) Great post!

Teresa Schultz 4 weeks ago

@technibz - it's best to always be honest - glad you liked this report - my Adsense earnings have increased somewhat since I wrote this. If you mean do I have tips for you about easily getting your Adsense account application approved, it's best to first write a few hubs and get some traffic to them before applying for an Adsense account.
