73How does one look after a frangipani tree that is not in it's natural environment?
This is my answer to a HubPages question about how to have success with growing frangipani in a cold area:
Is there perhaps no space to keep the frangipani indoors in a large pot until it looks healthy enough to transfer to outdoors? I'm not sure if this would work, but if the trees are miserable outside and still young, give them a chance indoors near a sunny window, or on a sheltered patio.
I'm in South Africa, which has a warm climate and I have fond memories of a frangipani tree in my parents' garden. Even though they and I still live in the same town, we cannot even go and visit that tree or any of the others that used to be there, as an office block now stands in the place of the house I grew up in.
The frangipani tree was hardy, taking various knocks from me when I climbed the tree as a kid. It also didn't seem to need much water to survive - I think maybe if it had too much water, it wouldn't have been as happy.

Give frangipani trees a chance
It died down tremendously in winter, and looked like it was dead and was going to wither away and shrivel to nothing, but come spring again, it would come back to life, and bloom beautifully. The tallest tip was probably about 3 and a half metres high.
I suggest do not throw the trees out if they only look dead, as they may spring back to life again, and try keep them indoors, at first.
My mom also used to use rooting hormones (available from a nursery, or some hardware stores that have a gardening section) that used to help her daisies grow beautifully, and perhaps this might help frangipani trees grow better too.
I do wish you luck and hope you have success, as frangipani trees are really beautiful.

@ Bard of Ely - one of my very best friends live in the UK, and went on holiday to Tenerife last year. Saw some photos - beautiful place. Frangipani flowers are indeed beautiful and smell divine :)
It's such a pity that the frangipani won't grow inland, where it gets cold. It would cerainly beautify the country.

does any body know if frangipani flowers in end of October beginning of November?
I live in Dubai and have lots of Frangipani in my garden . The leaves are all falling from the frangipani trees is this normal at this time of year?
@ Rena - from some quick research on the Internet, it would seem that if a frangipani is dropping its leaves a little early, or before winter, then the leaves may have a disease. It's a good idea to clear away the leaves that drop, and to treat the soil near the stem of the tree with a fungicide, as this may slow down the reapparance of any diseased leaves on the tree the next season.
